If the thought of managing your existing credit card debts is starting to make your head spin, take a step back for a second. At Saveful, we’ve identified the best balance transfer credit cards out there right now. In order for a card to make our list, it needs to have a long 0% interest period on transfers, reasonable interest afterwards, and transfer fees that don’t sting too much. It’s hard to find a card that ticks all of these boxes, but we’ve done the work for you.
Current offer: 0% interest on all balance transfers and purchases for the first 18 months. There’s also no penalty APR, late fees or annual fee.
Why this is a good offer: With one of the longest balance transfer periods available, the Citi Simplicity gives you 18 months to get your finances in order. If you’re struggling with debt, having no penalty APR or late fees means you reduce the risk of getting yourself into further financial trouble. If you can’t pay off the balance you transferred in the first 18 months, the APR increases to between 12.99% and 22.99% based on your credit score. There is a balance transfer fee but that 3% is just about the going rate for this type of card.
Current offer: You get 0% interest on balance transfers and purchases for 14 months so you can clear your existing debts. There’s no annual fee, no late payment fee on your first late payment, no penalty APR, no overlimit fee, and no foreign transaction fee. You’ll also earn 5% cash back on rotating quarterly categories and 1% unlimited cash back on all other purchases.
Why this is a good offer: Usually excellent rewards and 0% interest on balance transfers for 14 months don’t go hand-in-hand. This means the Discover it card is a rare find. If you’re a seasonal spender, there’s an opportunity to earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 worth of spending in categories that change each quarter. For example, for October to December of 2014 you’ll earn 5% cash back on online shopping and department stores, so get your application in soon to take advantage of 5% cash back on all your holiday shopping. You’ll also earn 1% cash back on all your other purchases. There’s a 3% fee on any balance transferred. If you want to manage your debts well, and still earn rewards on new purchases, Discover it is the card for you.
Current offer:, 0% interest on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months and no balance transfer fee if you make the transfer within 60 days of opening an account. There’s also no annual fee.
Why this is a great offer: The Chase Slate may not come with the rewards earning potential that Discover it offers, but its 0% interest and no balance transfer fee make it the card of choice for those who are really only interested in transferring balances from other cards. And if you do want to make some purchases, you’ll still benefit from the 0% APR for the first 15 months and Chase’s industry-leading protections such as Purchase Protection, Price Protection, and Extended Warranty Protection.
